Listen to Honesty, Not Ignore it

Women, a lot of us want to ignore a thing called honesty and what I mean by that, is that honesty wants us to bring the core of who God made us to be and bring it into the light. When we bring ourselves into the light—we see what is true whether we have been living as God wants us to or not. Sometimes honesty brings out something about us that we fear, but God calls us not to be afraid. Everyone, no matter how saved, mature or free, there are all kinds of things we fear and bottle up thinking it will protect ourselves, but really it is hindering what God has called us to be. These things that we hide about ourselves could be something that makes you special or unique, but guess what we do instead of embracing who we are? We fear rejection. This fear steals the best of who we are and causes us to believe “they won’t like me”, “I’m not good enough”, or “I’m not skinny enough.” As humans, especially women, all we want is to love and to be loved, but the more we hide our beauty that makes us different, we start feeling empty, left out and lonely.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgement.” 2 Timothy 1:7

This fear of rejection and the lies begin to believe seem like impossible obstacles, but honesty makes them stepping stones because when you fix your eyes on Jesus, guess what happens? You are no longer defined by how the world sees you because you will chase honesty. You will be defined by God because he created you. He wants you to listen to honesty, not ignore it.

When we fear rejection, we ignore honesty, which causes us to ignore what God called us to become. So when you think honesty is trying to hurt you, it’s trying to heal you. Honesty wants you to get uncomfortable, be fearless, and embrace the person God called us to become. When we embrace this, we gain confidence enough to know our worth, value, and beauty in Christ alone. This confidence gives us the strength to overcome the fear of rejection that made us ignore honesty in the first place.

“…God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him. If we say, “We have fellowship with Him,” yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth. But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His son cleanses us from all sin…If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:5-7, 9

“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance to the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” Romans 12:1-2

He calls us to bring our true-self, our secrets, and our sins into the light. When we come into the light, we receive forgiveness, love, and community. We are no longer shackled to the lies the world wants us to believe. God created us to pay it forward. Start as you are, where you are because you know whose you are.

God wants a relationship with you. He wants you to embrace honesty and not to believe the lies of this world. He’s holding his hand out, waiting for you to grab it. God has a plan and purpose for every one of you. We must fix our eyes focused on Jesus, lay aside our sin, trust honesty and love the woman God created you to be. No more hiding behind fear and just run the race that he has called us to run.
