80 Day Obsession

Image
The New Year is almost here, who has been thinking about new years resolutions? I know I have! I have been thinking about goals for this new year -- self-care, financial, health/fitness, reading more, etc. Two years ago, I made a new year resolution to lose weight that absolutely changed my life! I had all good intentions about sticking to something, but when I made that resolution, I had no clue where to start or how to stay accountable. If you are like me, it's pretty easy to stick to something for 21 days, maybe 30, or even 60...but usually distractions, excuses, and just life gets in the way. We become unfocused in our goal and forget why we even started in the first place.  Sounds like YOU? Great, keep reading! When I heard about the newest fitness and nutrition program, I wasn't so sure about the word, "Obsessed?" I teach moderation and LOVE living by the 80/20 nutrition rule (and if you're like Shaun T, 10% of that is FUN). But, I also have this

Healthy General Tso Chinese

Ever want Chinese but don’t want the guilt and bloat of ordering the buffet or an overloaded to-go order? My husband and I LOVE Chinese food but really don’t like the discomfort it brought to our bellies once we started eating healthier. When we lived in Fort Thomas, KY in the winter of 2016-2017, we CRAVED Chinese almost every day so we needed to find a healthier solution or we were going to reap the consequences of all the sodium, refined carbs, and high calories. We also needed something quick and easy to meal prep for lunches during the week. After lots of researching and trying different recipes, I found a great way to make this favorite Chinese dish at your home with friends and family. I looked online for recipes to make it homemade but never found anything that I liked or that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg to make. I have made homemade sesame seed chicken, but it turned out too salty and I didn’t want that to happen also. So when shopping at Kroger, I found a Genera

Daring Greatly Challenge

Losing weight is not complicated. We MAKE it complicated. All kinds of marketing companies tell us you need to do low-fat, low-carb, no carb, micros, micros, ....how on EARTH are we supposed to know what to do?  We've been told "eat right and exercise" for years. The problem has never been the WHAT, it's always been the HOW. Instead of making it complicated by counting points, calories, or anything else, there is a whole system that uses whole foods (foods closest to the earth) and portion control (clearly defined amounts) to make eating EASY again. "Exercise" no longer equals "gym." Now, you can work out at home, outside, at the gym...anywhere! So, if clearly defined systems are available to make it EASY, why do SO MANY people still struggle with being overweight? Now, it's not the HOW, but the WHY. Too many of us are afraid to DARE. We hold back out of FEAR. We don't want to open up, be vulnerable about our struggles, or ASK fo

Faith, Fitness, & Food Challenge

What if God really did care about what we eat? What if God really did care about that extra cookie or the 5 cans of pop you drink a day? Do you really need to include God in your health journey? God never intended for us to want anything more than we want him. A lot of people rely on food more than God or crave food more than they want God. Food is used for comfort, stress, rewards, depression, and happiness. So how can we really be healthy when we crave food more than we do God? When I first realized this while reading "Made to Crave" by Lysa Terkeurst, I knew I needed to make a change and include God in my health journey!  Lysa TerKeurst states, "The issue was how I felt mentally, spiritually, and physically. It was time to be honest with myself. I knew certain things about myself needed to change but it was easier to make excuses than it was to tackle them head on. But excuses got me nowhere fast, especially when it came to healthy eating."  HEALTH means

Made to Crave Challenge

It took me a long time to realize that I had a food problem. I never knew that eating a whole box of cookies were setting me back in my relationship with God. I didn't know that my overeating really made me gain the weight, I just thought my body hated me. Yeap, that was me.   The girl that would eat all the cookie dough in one sitting. The girl that would lick too much brownie batter. The girl who would secretly buy cookies from the store and hide them from her husband. The girl that would continue to eat because it tastes so good. The girl that would go and eat a handful of chocolate chips for a snack. The girl that celebrated good times with lots of food. especially...cookies. Sugar is my weakness. I can't have just one. I've always learned that a lot of women also struggle with turning to food for comfort, instead of God. So that's why I finally picked up this book called Made to Crave by Lysa TerKeurst. In her book, she helps turn our cravings for food

3 Day Refresh Results

Image
About a month ago, my husband and I did the 3 Day Refresh..and YES I am just now blogging about it! I just want to start by being completely honest and tell you that I avoided doing this like the plague! I hate the thought of doing a "cleanse." I was terrified that I would get headaches, feel sick, and I hate the thought of someone telling me what I can and can't eat. One of our friends did the 3 Day Refresh and got amazing results, so my husband and I thought we needed to jump on this bandwagon and check it out!  Andrew and I eat pretty clean the majority of the time, but I could tell a couple of our food choices that we had been making recently were catching up with us. We had the bloat, we were lacking energy, and our poo needed some change! We also just came back from a week of summer camp with our high schoolers, and let's just say camp food isn't the cleanest. During summer camp, we made the healthiest choices that we could, but it's hard
